Kids & youth programs

Creating a safe environment

Impeccable Facilities

Our facilities and equipment are constantly and meticulously cleaned with hospital grade disinfectant.

Strict safety protocols

Our programs are uncompromising when it comes to the safety and welfare of our athletes.

Certified coaches

Our coaches undergo thorough background checks and are certified through the US Centre for Safe Sport

Supportive team

Our athletes and coaches foster a challenging yet respectful and supportive team dynamic.

We believe young men and women need to be challenged. To strive, to fail, to persevere and to succeed based on effort and dedication.

The kids and youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs at De la Costa Academy aim to create extra support for parents by teaching children and young adults discipline, self-control, improved self-esteem and the ability to focus better on tasks. To this end, our kids & youth programs are designed not only to impart a solid understanding of technique and strategy but also to model respect, discipline and grit.

In our kids and youth BJJ classes, students are expected to focus, listen to instruction and perform to the best of their ability while at the same time having fun in a safe, structured program.

Those students who show an aptitude and willingness will have opportunities to compete with young athletes of similar levels from other academies, but competition is by no means a requirement for participation.

Kids’ classes are for children 8-11 years old, and youth classes are for young men and women 12-15 years old, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis.

Ottawa’s Favourite
Open Mat

Any athlete, from any academy, from any affiliation, always.

Our open mat sessions are fast becoming the place to be for drop-ins. Whether you live in Ottawa or are just passing through, looking for competition rolls or just to share the mats in a safe, welcoming environment, we’d love to have you share the mats with us.

(We don’t charge drop-in fees, but are more than happy to accept cash donations to our programs in the Dominican Republic instead).
